Multi-state licensure has been a dream of mine since before I even became a licensed massage therapist!

During my entry level education, my instructor handed out a spreadsheet detailing various state's licensure requirements. I remember thinking, "do I really have to memorize all of this just to work in another state? Why isn't there a national licensing option?"

That was 10 years ago!

Now, our profession has the chance to turn the dream of multi-state licensing into a reality!

Portability has been a long standing goal of our profession, well before my time, and the Interstate Massage Compact (IMpact) is the most innovative effort we've made since Board Certification and the MBLEx.

Here in Arkansas, I'm surrounded by six neighboring states (my southern comfort seven), three of which are within easy driving distance for me.

The ability to work in other states that are busier during my slow seasons would be life changing! And it opens up new opportunities for collaboration with colleagues across state lines. As a continuing education provider, being able to legally practice while traveling for courses and demonstrate techniques without grey areas of being unlicensed to touch is an absolute game changer!

I believe wholeheartedly in the Interstate Massage Compact, and you should too.

This IMpacts me,

This IMpacts you.

Peace and Healing,

Kirby Clark Ellis, MTI, BCTMB
